Getting to BC Place for World Cup 2026: Transit, Parking, and What to Expect on Match Days

Getting to BC Place for World Cup 2026: Transit, Parking, and What to Expect on Match Days

BC Place sits at the north edge of False Creek, a ten-minute walk from the heart of downtown Vancouver. For World Cup matches, getting there is straightforward — the stadium is directly connected to two SkyTrain stations and within walking distance of several more. Driving is possible. It is not the right choice on match days.

Vancouver SkyTrain station platform with TransLink train

By SkyTrain: The Right Answer

Stadium-Chinatown Station (Expo and Millennium Lines) is directly adjacent to BC Place — it’s the station built specifically for the venue. Exit the station and you’re at the east plaza of the stadium in under two minutes. This is the primary arrival point for transit riders coming from downtown, Burnaby, Surrey, and the SkyTrain network generally.

Yaletown-Roundhouse Station (Canada Line) is about a 10-minute walk along Pacific Boulevard and Robson Street. This is the arrival point for people coming from the airport, Richmond, or the Canada Line corridor through the city centre.

TransLink runs additional SkyTrain service on event days — increased frequency and extended hours after matches. The post-match crowd at Stadium-Chinatown is significant for large events; expect queues on the platform for the first 20-30 minutes after the final whistle. Staying in the area for 30-45 minutes after the match to find food or a drink near the stadium is a practical way to avoid the peak crowd.

Walking from Downtown

From Robson Square or the Granville and Georgia intersection downtown, it’s about a 15-minute walk south on Cambie or Richards Street to BC Place. The route along Robson to Beatty Street is pedestrian-friendly and well-lit. On summer evenings, this is a reasonable option for the walk in — less so immediately post-match when the streets around the stadium are crowded.

By Car: The Discouraging Reality

Parking exists around BC Place. The main lots are east of the stadium near the Expo Line viaduct, and there’s paid parking at Rogers Arena across the street. On World Cup match days — particularly for the June 18 Canada game and any knockout round matches — surface lots will fill before kickoff and the streets around Yaletown, Chinatown, and False Creek will be significantly congested.

If you’re driving with multiple people, parking at a SkyTrain station further out (Metrotown, Surrey Central, or any station with a park-and-ride) and riding in is faster and cheaper than trying to park near the stadium. The $5-7 day transit pass covers the whole trip both ways.

Arriving from Outside Metro Vancouver

The West Coast Express (commuter rail from Mission/Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows/Coquitlam) terminates at Waterfront Station, from which Stadium-Chinatown is three stops on the Expo Line. Check the WCE schedule — event service is sometimes added for major BC Place events. The SeaBus from the North Shore also lands at Waterfront Station. If you’re staying in North Vancouver or coming from there, this is a seamless connection.

From the YVR Airport: Canada Line from YVR to Yaletown-Roundhouse, then 10-minute walk to BC Place. Total time from arrivals: 35-45 minutes depending on wait times. This matters for international visitors flying in same-day for a match — plan the extra time.

Arrival Timing

BC Place gates open 90 minutes before kickoff. For major group stage matches and all knockout rounds, plan to be at the gates 60-75 minutes before kickoff. Security screening processes 54,000+ people and lines form quickly once the crowd builds. Arriving 30 minutes before kickoff for a sold-out World Cup match is too late to be comfortable.

What’s Not Allowed Inside

Standard large-event rules apply: no outside food or drink, no bags larger than a small backpack (30x30x15cm is the general guideline, though check FIFA’s specific event policy as it may be more restrictive), no banners or flags on poles, no noise-makers. Sealed water bottles (small) are typically permitted. Confirm specific rules with the official FIFA event documentation before your match day.

BC Place Match Schedule (Pacific Time)

  • June 12 — Australia vs. Turkey, 9:00 PM
  • June 18 — Canada vs. Qatar, 3:00 PM
  • June 21 — New Zealand vs. Egypt, 6:00 PM

The Canada vs. Qatar match on June 18 is the one that will be watched most closely in this city. Canada’s men’s national team played their first-ever World Cup match in Qatar 2022. This is their first home World Cup appearance. The atmosphere at BC Place and across the city that afternoon will be unlike anything during the regular sports calendar.
